Food that makes you fall in love with you

What we consume is not just the food we eat.  It includes what we consume through our eyes, ears and what we think about.  There is such a food item, which when consumed, makes us fall in love with ourselves.  That is the introduction of a human being to a human being by the Upanishads.  This article shares some of the sacred truths shared in the Isavasya Upanishad.

The pickle of life

What we constantly worry about, such as house, car, finances, stuff at work etc are the pickle (side dish) of life.  We mistake that for the main course and miss the main course of life which is living enlightenment.  The society is designed in a way to keep us busy with the pickle so that we never look at the main course.  We anyway pay the price for the entire buffet.  Why not enjoy the entire meal of life?

The main course

The introduction given to human beings about themselves by Isavasya Upanishad is that who we are in Pure Consciousness and;

Pure Consciousness is all-pervasive, beyond the coming and going, absolute radiant and self-effulgent, unembodied, Boundaryless, Whole (beyond the subtle body), woundless, muscleless, having no incompletion with the body. Consciousness is the ever pure space devoid of the dirt of ignorance, and is untouched by the delusion of incompletion; Consciousness is the all-knowing seer of all–past, present and future, the lord of all minds (manīṣī), Consciousness transcends all beings (paribhuḥ). Consciousness is self-existent by Itself with Its independent will and intelligence, having no cause for Its happening. It is Pure Consciousness, that from time eternal, has enriched the ages and each being, by ordaining desirable responsibilities, artha onto them, as per their nature and space, and their actions and results thereof.

This is the main course.  Each phrase has to be savoured and made into living energy in our system.  Let us take one of the statements and look at it a little closer.

The blanket of incompletion

A statement that is made in the verse above is that we are untouched by the delusion of incompletion.  Incompletion is simply any idea we carry about ourselves, others and the world which is not aligned to the introduction given above.  These ideas are like the blanket that we pull on ourselves in the early morning to feel cosy and comfortable and get a few more hours of sleep.  The wrong ideas that we carry only puts us in suffering and it has nothing to do with who we are in reality.

The way to consume this food

Contemplating about these truths is the way to consume this food.  Taking the time out to think through them is necessary in our day to day life.  We are so caught up with trivial things that we have even forgotten how to contemplate.  Getting a group of people to think through these truths along with us is the sure way to consume this food.  Vedic tradition calls this ‘Vakyartha Sadas’ – a forum to explore the sacred secrets of life.  Create one in your locality or online using Skype or Hangouts to ensure an unlimited supply of this for yourself!

How do you know that you are consuming this food?

The more and more we consume this food, the more we will feel settled with ourselves.  We will be established more in a space that is at a higher plane than that is permeated by time and space.  This will make us fall in love with who we really are.
